Engineering Meets Human Curiosity

I’m Vishwa Warnajith, an Electronic and Computer Engineering undergraduate at the University of York who thrives at the intersection of hardware, software, and scientific discovery. My academic journey combines cutting-edge research in AI and computer vision with real-world engineering projects that solve practical challenges. From designing telescope alignment systems to developing educational apps, I pursue innovation that matters — merging precision engineering with creative thinking to improve how technology serves people.

Through roles as Treasurer and Technical Officer of the York Engineering Society and a Research Volunteer in medical engineering, I’ve cultivated leadership, mentorship, and research skills that extend beyond the lab. I’m currently seeking opportunities to apply my technical and creative skills in research, engineering development, or software innovation roles.

Soft Strengths

Transferable Skills

Leadership & Teamwork

Leading projects as Team Lead and Treasurer taught me to unite teams under clear goals and deliver results collaboratively.

My Experience

Hands-on roles in research, society leadership, and technical development have helped me build a balanced portfolio of engineering expertise and human skills ready for industry impact.

International Buddy

Supporting new students at York fostered my mentoring and cross-cultural communication skills, ensuring smooth academic and social integration for international students starting university life.

Technical Officer

Managed YES digital infrastructure and developed the YES Mobile app, combining software engineering, leadership, and mentorship for member development within the society.

Research Volunteer

In the Medical Engineering Laboratory, I developed a Linux-based GUI for data collection on Raspberry Pi 4, streamlining research operations and boosting lab automation.

Summer Internship

At the Institute for Safe Autonomy (UK), I built a computer-vision and ML-driven system for telescope alignment and safety automation, enhancing observatory efficiency and research precision.

Early Excellence

Awards and Honours

From Olympiad medals to top A/L results (AAA in Combined Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry), my academic journey has been defined by curiosity and discipline. Winning national and international science competitions and earning college awards for leadership and sports reflect my drive for holistic excellence — qualities that continue to shape my engineering career.

Cingolani Gold Medal

The Cingolani Gold Medal recognised me as the Best All-Round Student of St. Sylvester’s College for exceptional achievement in academics, sports, and leadership — the college’s most prestigious honour.

Best Student 2022

Awarded Best Student of the Year 2022 for academic excellence, leadership, and service. This recognition validated my commitment to continuous learning and balanced personal development.

Hobbies & Interests

Beyond Engineering

Outside engineering, I share STEM knowledge through educational content that inspires curiosity and learning among students worldwide. Creating digital resources helps me translate complex concepts into engaging stories and connect with a broader community of learners — balancing technical precision with creativity and communication.
